Is There an Official Holiday Notice for Mumbai's February 16, 2012 Election?

White Eagle
Hi Team, as you know, there is an election in Mumbai on February 16, 2012. Has any notice or circular been issued by government authorities regarding a holiday for that date under the Negotiable Instrument Act or any other Act? If yes, please share the said notice.

Thank you.

Some public sectors, hospitality, and manufacturing industries may provide a half-day or 2-3 hours off for election purposes.

Is it compulsory for private companies to keep their offices shut? What will be the adverse effect? Our company won't declare a holiday for the election.

It seems many companies will declare a 2–3-hour concession for casting votes. Is this sufficient, or should a full-day holiday be declared?

It depends upon the continuity and criticality of the business. It's a company's call whether to declare time off or give a concession of 2 hours from the regular working hours. Please refer to clause no. 4.1 and 4.2; it's very clear.

Why is Mumbai the Only City Considered for a Holiday Under the NI Act?

I'll have to go to the bank tomorrow as usual ... only got 2 hours off.

Don't worry, Subodh. It has come. Now they have declared a holiday for all the 10 Corporations under the NI Act. Happy holidaying, but don't forget to exercise your franchise!

As you know, on December 13 and 17, 2012, there is an election in Gujarat. Has there been any notice or circular issued by government authorities regarding holidays?
