Effective HR Practices for Retaining Best Employees Through Lateral Thinking

Reena
Hi all,

I have to do a project as part of my 4th Semester of MBA in HR. I am planning to take up the topic of 'RETAINING BEST EMPLOYEES'. I am planning to find out the best practices of different industries. Please give me your valued suggestions on whether my topic and my approach are fine or should I go about it in a different manner.

Thank you and regards,
Reena

That's a good topic. I am sure you would find many ideas on HR practices/policies that are, by and large, common sense as they involve human beings. It's about how you would like to be treated if you were in their place. Let me share this method to help you think about this topic. It's called the reversal method in lateral thinking. How would you throw/dismiss the best employees? This should help you think of HR practices. Have a great day!

Hi Rajat,

First of all, thank you for giving me a new direction, but I'm not clear about one thing. We do dismiss employees, but why would we dismiss the best employees? I am confused, so please clear this doubt of mine.

Exactly, that's my point. What would make the best employees leave the company? If you start thinking this way for each best and valuable employee, as in what would prompt them to leave or what things are happening that can make them think about change. This is a reversal method of thinking, as we are good at thinking about why things don't work.

Cheers,
Rajat
