Hi all,

I am a postgraduate student specializing in HR, currently working on a project about training and development. My role involves analyzing the existing training and development programs and evaluating their efficiency. Please guide me on how to prepare the report for this project.

Thank you,

Hi Archana,

For a project on T&D, firstly, you should have a clear understanding of the topic, including its various aspects, types, tools, measures, importance, and the utility of different kinds of programs. Then, you should study the different T&D programs that your company has undergone (cover them in detail) and check for the data available for each program.

Accordingly, frame questionnaires to evaluate the effectiveness of the programs, analyze the results, and then come to a conclusion. This is just a gist of the general methodology. I hope you got an idea. Feel free to ask if there is anything, in particular, you want to know.

I also worked on the same project in an automobile manufacturing company.

Hi Archana,

As per your requirement, you are to analyze the effectiveness of training programmes. Apart from using appropriate instruments for gauging it, like your Kirkpatrick model of Training Evaluation, just have a look below:

There are two major components you evaluate here:

1) The Trainer - Done immediately after the programme.

2) The Trainee or The Participant.

It is the evaluation of the Trainee that is of much importance; as it is generally done after a certain period of time; say 3 months, generally done by his immediate supervisor to evaluate benefits from the programme. Generally, organizations miss this link which makes it difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of a particular program.

In case of a problem with the Trainer, it is immediately identified at the end of the program and the trainer for a particular program can be changed immediately.

Another basic aspect is that in your Training Need Analysis Matrix if you had messed up in identifying appropriate training programs to the target audience; then the whole process will end up in a mess.

Wishing you the best of luck for your project.

Hi, Archana,

I think the best way to measure the effectiveness of any training program is by measuring the outcome or result of it. This can only be done by evaluating the performance of the trainees post-training. There are various methods to do that, such as mere observation of the trainees' behavior, return on investment measurement, performance appraisals, and demonstrations by trainees, among others.

I hope this gives you a basic idea.

Hi all,

I am working on a project about training and development in an iron and steel company. I have completed half of the project, but now I need to create a questionnaire related to this topic. Please send me some sample questions that can help me improve my project.

Thank you,

Hi,

What do you mean by "you have done half of the project and you have to make a questionnaire"? How will any questionnaire help? What are your research aims and objectives? What are your hypotheses? The questions you need to ask will depend on the former.

Please read my posts on Research Methodology (PPT slides attached) and on MBA projects at CiteHr. Also, check out other posts in response to students' requests for help with analyzing questionnaires. There are also useful posts by other experts such as Leo Lingham, Prodcon, Ash Mathew, etc.
