Hi,
Am a Bangalore-based softskill trainer. I have over 40 years of industry experience. Post-retirement, am into softskill training. I have conducted Corporate Recruitment Training in over 20 engineering colleges / B Schools in Andhra pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Bangalore.
I find lot of gap in so far as the skill levels of students are concerned. In almost all engineering colleges, the students are never briefed about the number of papers they have to read, number of subjects they have to read in English, the workshops, the labs, the seminars, conferences, college functions that they have to attend. Many students have admitted to me that, had they known that they have an insurmountable task on hand, in the beginning itself, they would have opted out. Everybody is on a money-spinning spree. Students are under mistaken notion, when they join, that once they get admitted and push through four years, at the end of it, they will get a beautiful degree on one hand and a hot IT job on the other hand. Further, I know personally, in many colleges, boy students have got 5 to 20 papers as arrears in the fourth year. The age gap between the faculty and final year students are just one year in many colleges. Final year students, who pass out with great difficulty, find bleak opportunity to get handsome jobs. Consequently, they settle for faculty position in the colleges where they studied. In the absence of well qualified faculty members, colleges also compromise on the quality of faculty. So it is a vicious circle and since everybody is cool and comfortable, things go on....
You can now imagine what will be the quality of students coming out of such colleges !
Best wishes
