Dear Tanvini,
If we assume our "Indian family" as an organization, then every ordinary housewife, is like HR department of every family. Though a wife is a cause, motivation and objective for the work a man performs in the outside world and we cannot compare all these with the employees' relationship with HR department, the role of HR department / HR manager cannot be underestimated, like we cannot underestimate the role of an ordinary house-wife who performs routine functions like cooking, washing, cleaning etc at home in the material and spiritual progress of the family. HR department is an "indirect contributor" to the profits of the organization.
Career-wise it may be or may not be interesting, but many HR professionals end up being good human beings by the end of their careers and most of them achieve Self-actualization, which does not happen in other areas like Finance, Marketing, Operations etc.
There is no need to feel sorry about choosing this field, this is a field that not only helps us to make a living but also helps us to grow as human beings and find out to know the purpose of our existence.
