ESI Amendment Notification in Gujarat

The ESI amendment was published in yesterday's newspaper in Gujarat. As per the notification, for the following scheduled employments, the minimum number of employees required for ESI registration has been reduced to 10:

• Shops
• Hotels
• Restaurants
• Road & Motor Transport
• Theaters
• Newspaper Agencies

The notification further states that any organization involved in the above-mentioned businesses and employing more than 10 employees, irrespective of the salary of the employees, must get itself registered under ESIC. We are yet to confirm from the RD what happens in cases where all 10 or more employees draw more than Rs. 15,000.00 per month.

Good afternoon, thank you for your post. I have already read the newspaper ads from ESIC, but there is no official notification from the ESI branch office or any other government department. If you have any government department notifications, please attach them.

Notification and Coverage Under ESI Act

The notification can be downloaded from the following link. It is applicable in geographical areas that have been notified under the ESI Act. As I understand, establishments employing 10 or more workers in notified geographical areas are covered, and in such units, only workers drawing a salary of less than Rs. 15,000 are covered.
