Why Are More Engineering Graduates in India Leaving Their First Jobs So Quickly?

Atomleaf
Hi all,

AC Nielsen ORG-MARG's Campus Recruiter Index for Engineering Colleges indicated an increasing trend towards early intentional attrition among engineering students in India. The survey findings suggested that graduates desirous of leaving their first employers within two years or less has gone up to 64% this year as compared to 59% among those who graduated in 2005 and 47% in 2004. "The trend reflects the explosion in job opportunities for skilled workers, the growing IT sector, and the aspirations of today's engineering graduates," said Mr. Prasenjit Das, Associate Director, AC Nielsen ORG-MARG. In the most preferred employers' list selected by the engineering students due to graduate in 2006, the global internet search firm Google has made a surprise second-place entry after Microsoft, displacing McKinsey & Co to the third place.

Hi Atomleaf,

Thanks for posting this article.

In fact, when I was reading this article yesterday, the following issues came up:

- How are they affecting the positions of HR professionals' hiring strategy?

What can we do if we are in IT industries that are facing this dilemma of a high attrition rate?

No doubt it's good that more options are opening up for engineering graduates, but what needs to be understood is the business strategy of Google. Will it lead to a boom like the dot-com bubble that burst in the late 1990s? What impact will it have on the company's bottom line?

Cheers,
Rajat

Is the market research about only the most preferred and recognized ones, or is it a study about general entry-level seekers with 1-2 years of experience? This information could provide some workable figures.
