Opening Session Strategies for a Soft Skills Workshop

In the opening session of a workshop on soft skills for college students, it is essential to create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere. One effective way to start the workshop is by introducing the facilitators and setting the expectations for the session. Icebreaker activities can also be used to help students feel comfortable and encourage interaction. Additionally, providing an overview of the workshop agenda and objectives can give students a clear understanding of what to expect. It is important to ensure that the opening session sets a positive tone for the rest of the workshop and motivates students to actively participate and learn.

Thank you for the response. However, my query was straightforward. I am seeking various approaches that could be adopted for the opening session. I am in need of suggestions for activities such as icebreakers, pitching exercises, quizzes, etc.

Hi Garima, stick to the basics, dear. Your entrance should be very friendly. You can talk about current affairs or normal scenario stories. Make it interactive and smartly observe how to transition to the topic of your training. Everybody wants a relaxed start, so give them a dose of laughter with a smile and share healthy stories.

Hope it helps.

Cheers,

Hi Garima, you actually require icebreakers to start a session with college students because they are scared of typical lectures. You really need to sugarcoat your soft skills sessions well so that they can swallow it without hesitation. I use some icebreakers with college students like:

- Add an adjective to your name like - SMART SANJAY - ARTISTIC ANITA... something which describes a quality of yours. The adjective's first letter may or may not match the name's first letter; it can be Smart Anita also.
- If you were to make a movie on your life, what would be the title of the movie (creates a lot of humor). You can substitute a novel instead of a movie.
- Or you can write an interesting quotation on the board pertaining to the subject and ask them for views.
- Or you can show them a video and discuss.

Hope it helps.
