Can any one explain what is the difference between recruitment and selection

Actually, there is so much of confusion between recruitment and selection among people. But here mentioned below some points to understand the difference hope they will help you out.
Recruitment is generally to motivate and stimulate the candidate to apply for particular position. This is initial stage where applicants will be applying for particular position of an organization. We can recruit the people through portals,off-campus etc.So,this is positive process in which we are attracting more no. of people as per the given requirement.
On the other hand, Selection is the process where we are choosing the right candidate acoording to roles and responsibilities and also by analyzing the candidate by interviewing whether he best suits the requirement or not. So,We can say this is negative process where we are selecting the right candidate out of total no. of recruited candidates.

Garima is right, as, Recruitment is the process of attracting a pool of candidates towards a job.
whereas,
Selection is the process of choosing the best and most suitable person from that pool of candidates.
Moreover, selection is a two way process. For example, Its not that organizations select a candidates but candidates also select that organization in which they are going to work in future (either they will find themselves fit or not). Therefore, its a two way process!

Recruitment is a way/process to call/attract as many candidates for multiple/single job/vacancy/ies
Selection is a process to shortlist candidates for a position.
Recruitment is open to all candidates fulfilling the age/qualification or laid down criteria
Selection could be amongst a closed pool/selected pool of candidates even within a company/branch/section
Eg
Recruitment of Bank clerks/officers vis-a vis selection of Senior Manager from amongst various managers

Recruitment is end to end process for in HR to hire an employee. Starting from planning, sourcing, selection, interview, offer, etc.
Selection is a part in recruitment, after sourcing where you select between available candidates and choose the best one to hire.

Recruitment is the process of collection of Resumes through advertisements for certain post.
Selection is the process of selecting the suitable person to the suitable job based on his performance
in written test, personal interview, assessing job knowledge on the basis of his experience.

Recruitment is a procedure of including more and more candidates for required job..
Selection is a procedure of selecting the best suitable candidate from among the included candidate for the particular job..
Recruitment :
1.Publish ads to let other know of the job opening.
2.invite application from various sources like consultant, referrals, online portals etc
3.screening Resumes.
4.filter the candidate who may be suitable for the particular job.
Selection:
1.Conduct interview
2.Reference check
3.Select the best of the best from the rest

Recruitment : Recruitment Refers to the process of finding possible candidate for a job or functions undertaken by the recruiters.
Selection: Selection is the process used to identity and hire individual or group of individuals to fill vacancies within an organization.

I am not having in depth knowledge, but in toto I can say, see the defintion of recruitment and selection you can get in any books, but just telling you as per my knowledge base. Recruitment just piking up the people and selection is when you start taking interviews n all that prelims. Recruitment u can say is just scoutin gos resumes and selection is finding the right person (may be thru PI's or...)
