Actually, there is so much confusion between recruitment and selection among people. Below are some points to help you understand the difference:

Recruitment

Recruitment is generally to motivate and stimulate the candidate to apply for a particular position. This is the initial stage where applicants will be applying for a specific position within an organization. People can be recruited through portals, off-campus, etc. This is a positive process in which we attract more people as per the given requirements.

Selection

On the other hand, selection is the process where we choose the right candidate according to roles and responsibilities by analyzing the candidate through interviews to determine if they best suit the requirements. This is a negative process where we select the right candidate from the total number of recruited candidates.

Garima is right, as recruitment is the process of attracting a pool of candidates towards a job, whereas selection is the process of choosing the best and most suitable person from that pool of candidates. Moreover, selection is a two-way process. For example, it's not that organizations select candidates, but candidates also select the organization in which they are going to work in the future (either they will find themselves fit or not). Therefore, it's a two-way process!

For any further queries, you are more than welcome!

Understanding Recruitment and Selection

Recruitment is a process to attract as many candidates as possible for multiple or single job vacancies. Selection, on the other hand, is a process to shortlist candidates for a specific position. Recruitment is open to all candidates who fulfill the age, qualification, or other laid-down criteria. Selection could involve choosing from a closed or selected pool of candidates, even within a company, branch, or section.

For example, consider the recruitment of bank clerks or officers versus the selection of a Senior Manager from among various managers.

Recruitment is an end-to-end process in HR to hire an employee, starting from planning, sourcing, selection, interviews, offers, etc.

Selection Process

Selection is a part of recruitment after sourcing, where you select between available candidates and choose the best one to hire.

I hope this helps.

Recruitment and Selection

Recruitment is the process of collecting resumes through advertisements for a certain post. Selection is the process of choosing the suitable person for the job based on their performance in a written test, personal interview, and assessing job knowledge according to their experience.

Understanding Recruitment and Selection

Recruitment is a procedure of including more and more candidates for the required job. Selection is a procedure of selecting the most suitable candidate from among the included candidates for the particular job.

Recruitment:

• Publish ads to let others know of the job opening.
• Invite applications from various sources like consultants, referrals, online portals, etc.
• Screen resumes.
• Filter the candidates who may be suitable for the particular job.

Selection:

• Conduct interviews.
• Perform reference checks.
• Select the best candidate from the pool.

This is what I have observed so far:

Recruitment refers to the process of finding potential candidates for a job or functions undertaken by recruiters.

Selection is the process used to identify and hire individuals or groups of individuals to fill vacancies within an organization.

The process of screening resumes and filtering candidates is the beginning step of the "Selection" process.

Thank you.

I am not having in-depth knowledge, but in toto I can say, see the definition of recruitment and selection you can get in any books, but just telling you as per my knowledge base.

Recruitment is just picking up the people, and selection is when you start taking interviews and all that prelims. Recruitment, you can say, is just scouting resumes, and selection is finding the right person (maybe through PIs or...).

Hope you got that.
