Dear Dipil,
I would not like to enter into the Debate on Henrich Theory.
The ultimate aim of any Safety Professional is to reduce the accidents and achieve Zero Accident Goal. If we start the Debate, one would win an argument but is that going to reduce the accidents?
I could not even go through the links given by Mr. Jagdish Patel because of lack of time. Instead I shall welcome any positive suggestion on reduction of accidents.
In our company I had given instructions to my team to analyse, to find if there are repetitive accidents to any employees. Then the Data since 2000 was analysed, and we found some cases where some workmen have met an accident more than twice.
In counseling one person had some family issues, very sincere, but unknowingly used to meet the accidents. Then we shifted him to the area where hazards were minimum. (Job Rotation).
In the one case the workman used to be so energetic, and always wanted to produce more, in Counseling, we told him to be careful and ensured his normal output, there by reducing the accidents.
Other cases were negligence. We imparted them the trainings, shown the safety motivational films and later we observed very good improvement in them.
I agree that BBS has some controversies, but it should be left to the safety professionals of that company to follow it or not.
However as stated earlier, my experience is it helps. I remember to have read one proverb " If you do not want to solve a problem Confuse the issue (Formula C)". I appeal all professionals to try it yourself and see if you get the results.
However please keep one thing in mind that BBS should not be used to disciplinary actions. The outcome has to be training, Counseling, motivation etc.
Hopefully should get the results like we got.
Thanks & Regards,
Sudhir
