The Gift of the Magi: A Tale of Love and Sacrifice

The Gift of the Magi is one of the most popular O. Henry stories. It is a story that brought him immediate fame. You may already know that O. Henry once worked as an accountant at a bank and was wrongly convicted of embezzlement, leading to his imprisonment. He wrote many of his stories while serving time in prison. Yet, without being didactic, his stories convey the morals of love, compassion, and humor.

This is one of those stories that relate the tale of sacrifice that two lovers made for each other during Christmas Eve. It is a tale of the triumph of love over poverty.
