Hi Anil,
Thanks a lot for your response.
I have visited the links , but my prob is a senior candidate who is not able to show the salary proofs. Only the salary certificate is provided(As the candidate is very much senior) and moreover he is working with current organization for the last 10 years. How can we check the genuinity of the case.

Dear Yogita,
you can ask for the recent appraisal letters. else you can ask him to send his bank running document where you can find his salary credited.
Who ever it may be they have to provide the proof else it is not a genuine one(Some cases may be exception where they have performance bonus,Incentive, variable pay or hardfurnishing etc which will not be taken into account for CTC calculation by some organisation).

Hi Shenbagarajan K,
Thanks a lot for your response.
We have already asked for these doc, which he has not produced.
Is it unethical if we try to verify the details from some other employee of the candidate's org., not disclosing the details of employment(just a fake call from some KPO kind of).
Can HR use these tricks to verify candidate

Dear Yogita,
If you feel ethical then you should recruit a person from other organisation.(Just for joke)
It is not unethical since you are getting a genuine resources for your organisation.
Moreover you can ask the reference no/ name from the person itself i.e. his manager / CEO. you can call them directly after offering him or if joins.
Atleast ask him to give his Form 16/ IT returns. Still not he has not given you the correct salary certificate.

Salary Certificate is a proof and hope you got it duly stamped by his employer or on Letter Head of Company. You can check the authenticity if you want by corresponding with his past employer. But as you said that he is a very senior person, i dont think he will provide any fake documents to you. I wont say the seniors cant do the same but very less people do that...
Also employer has no authority to ask an employee to server his/her bank statement of kind of documents..

Hi
A practice followed by most companies is to do a reference check after the person joins.
The appointment letter should specifically mention that his appointment is subject to reference check.
You said he is not able to produce proof of salary. What does that mean ? You mean salary slip ? or that it is not reflecting in the bank statement. Remember that a senior will have access to the letter head and stamp and can make a salary certificate on his own and give (you can't verify the authenticity of the signature). In such a case, you are within your rights to ask him to show his salary credit in the bank.

Hi Saswatabanerjee,
Thanks for your reponse.
I totally agree with your point(Remember that a senior will have access to the letter head and stamp and can make a salary certificate on his own and give (you can't verify the authenticity of the signature). This is why we asked for the bank statements.....
Thanks

It is obvious Yogita, he is a senior one and this can make feel bad to anyone...that was not required and the reaction by him was expected..
