Struggling with ESIC Payment Adjustments: Could This Lead to Audit Problems?

imrqur
Dear seniors, we are experiencing a lot of trouble with the new ESIC website while making monthly payments. What if there is an excess or short payment? And I have not been able to adjust that correctly? Will this create audit issues? Please advise.

As long as my experience holds, we have found some differences in monthly contributions due to rounding off to the nearest whole number. If there is a shortfall in payment, try to adjust the contribution under the subject of omitted wages. However, the first suggestion would be to "consult your local office for the same. If they agree to make the adjustment from their end, it is well and good."

Now, during the contribution period from April to September 2011, there has been a shortfall in payments from both the employees and the company's side. How should I respond to the auditors?

I have also encountered the same issue, but I have confirmed with our Regional Pune office regarding it. They have acknowledged the rounding-up formula issue where the ESI software is resulting in short payments. Consulting the Regional/Local ESI office is the best solution. No need to worry.

Yes, but in our case, it is not just due to rounding off from the website, but some error from our end. What do I do?

Dear Sir, Whatever difference you are encountering, fill it under omitted wages, and provide a copy of the challan with a covering letter to your local office. Let your local office know that you are filing it under omitted wages. Hope this will serve your query.

Okay, so it's actually a shortfall of a few thousand. Should I contact my local office directly? This should not cause problems in the future.
