Understanding Nonverbal Communication: How Can It Improve Our HR Interactions?

Dear all,

As an HR manager, in our day-to-day life, we deal with people. While working with them, it is important for us to know the other person, and the thing which helps in this is nonverbal communication. With this post, I am attaching a PowerPoint presentation which will help you in understanding nonverbal gestures. I hope it will be helpful.

Good luck!

Regards,
Pranali

The efforts for trying to understand the body language and the keen interest shown by the viewers are good enough for me as a psychologist to give my opinion on this.

The body gestures, postures, and signs, as well as some basic expressions, are similar universally, but complex messages differ from region to region. This aspect has to be considered. If you try to follow the signs and gestures as given in the pictures representing the general message, for our Indian context, the body gestures vary according to various cultural backgrounds. It will be helpful to keep this in mind while interpreting someone's nonverbal language or gaining a better understanding of regional gestures and sign language before beginning to interpret nonverbal communication.

I can also inform you that we conduct a workshop on "Understanding Body Language Specifically for HR Professionals" in Chennai on August 19th, 2007.

Very interesting. I have one question regarding verbal communication: How important is this for HR professionals in corporate HR/plant HR? Please let me know the importance of effective communication skills for plant HR professionals and whether it becomes a barrier to getting a promotion. Awaiting your response.

Ashutosh
