New HR in Town: How Do I Start Crafting Job Descriptions from Scratch?

s.pandian
Dear Seniors, I have just joined a new company and am the only HR here. I am asked to prepare the job descriptions for all the staff working here. Can anyone help me with how to prepare them? Where should I start? Are there any formats for that?

Expecting your shares and guidance.

Categorize designations according to departments. Consult department heads about the work allocations. With reference to the designation, outline their specific job descriptions.

Thank you for your reply. Here, there are no department heads, and I am going to handle this for the existing staff. Without the department heads, I don't have any source to ask them. I can only directly ask the concerned person. In that case, what should I do?

It seems that your firm has not categorized different departments. In this case, I would suggest that you take a closer look at the workings of the personnel. Based on that, differentiate them into categories. For example, if a few of them are looking after dispatch and procurement, then categorize that group as one.

On the other hand, provide some basic details about your firm to give us a basic idea about your operations.
