Need Help Designing an Org Structure for Waste Management: How Do I Tackle This Challenge?

Hi, I am new to this blog and require urgent aid to design an organizational structure for a hazardous and non-hazardous waste management company. I completed my attachment at a company that has only one master's degree holder as the environmental manager and one bachelor's degree holder as the health and safety manager. Unfortunately, the CEO has not attained any higher level of education, nor has the rest of the management team. They have tasked me with reviewing their organizational structure to enable them to partner with a foreign company. I lack in-depth knowledge of business management as my degree is in valuation or appraisal. However, this challenge may be the deciding factor for the company to employ me. Please kindly help me.

Purpose Behind Creating New Positions

At the simplest level, there should be a purpose behind each and every new position that is created. You can ask about their business plan, work out the tasks, KPIs, and then design a structure. A structure that works elsewhere may not fit here.

Management Education and Position Descriptions

In the second part, it is not necessary for management to be highly educated. Position descriptions should be made based on "must haves" rather than "good to haves."

Organizational Structuring for Business Growth

Organizational structuring is purely a function of business models, revenue models, and business growth plans. Other factors that come into play are how the jobs need to be designed, reporting relationships, efficiency of work to be built, and so on. By jobs, I don't mean the job descriptions, but the actual work to be done.

You have mentioned that the organizational structuring needs to be done with the objective of attracting foreign tie-ups. A factor that needs to be considered is that once the organizational structure is designed, it needs to be "manned." Hence, you need to have a manpower plan in place too, along with all the above. A better probing on the above and a few other aspects will give you input on how the organization needs to be structured.
