Difference Between TQM and Six Sigma

The main difference between Total Quality Management (TQM) and Six Sigma lies in their core focus and methodologies. TQM is a management approach aimed at improving quality and performance across all organizational processes. It emphasizes customer satisfaction, employee involvement, and continuous improvement.

On the other hand, Six Sigma is a data-driven methodology that focuses on reducing defects and variation in processes to enhance efficiency and quality. It aims to achieve near-perfection by systematically identifying and eliminating causes of errors or defects.

While both TQM and Six Sigma share the goal of improving quality, TQM is more holistic and involves the entire organization in quality improvement efforts, whereas Six Sigma is more data-centric and relies on statistical tools to drive process improvements.

TQM and Six Sigma are both related to the quality aspect of any work. The Six Sigma technique can be very precise, whereas TQM focuses on checking the overall working process.

A company approved as Six Sigma will have good TQM measures, but a company implementing TQM processes may not necessarily be Six Sigma approved.
