Navigating My M.Tech Project: Where to Focus on HAZOP and Risk Assessment?

srejith47
Hi, due to some reasons, my M.Tech project topic has changed. The new topic assigned to me is HAZOP and Risk Assessment. My concern is, "In which area should I concentrate for my project?" Additionally, I'm wondering if there are any free or paid software options available in the market for performing the HAZOP analysis.

Thank you.

A couple of months ago, I attended HAZWOPER training from a leading environmental service company in the UAE. I have been searching for the CD they provided me with, but I have not found it yet. Once I find it, I will forward it to you as it may be helpful for your project.

I do not have much experience in HAZOP. I will check and discuss with my colleagues, and I will let you know as soon as possible.

I hope that our seniors will be able to assist you on this topic. Keep on asking.

Understanding HAZOP

HAZOP stands for Hazard and Operability Study. It is a systematic study conducted to identify potential hazards and operational risks. This study is highly beneficial for process plants.

Attached is a presentation that could be helpful.

Understanding HAZOP Variability

HAZOP is not a standard or template that can be used universally. It varies according to the type of plants or industries. For example, the Oil & Gas HAZOP is more stringent than those used in other process industries or plants.

Thank you all for your sharing. I found the slides very useful for understanding HAZOP. It is clear we should not let academics make the subject so detailed and dogmatic that it becomes out of reach of the shop-floor safety practitioners.
