An increase in the accession rate indicates economic recovery, whereas a decrease in such rate indicates an economic recession. Accession rates can be calculated using the following formula: Total accessions * 100 Accession rate = ----------------------------- Total number of workers Accidental Death Benefit - This is a type of clause contained in certain life insurance policies, which provides for payment of additional amounts to the beneficiary if the insured party dies as a result of an accident. There is also a type of provision that allows an accident death benefit in which twice the normal value of the policy is payable, and this provision is known as the "double-indemnity" provision. Accident and Sickness Benefits - These are various types of regular payments made to employees who lose time from work owing to off-the-job disabilities that are occasioned by accident or sickness. Accident Severity Rate - This rate is calculated as the number of workdays lost because of accidents per thousand hours worked.
