Building an HR Portal: What Essential Features Should We Include and Why?

In our company website, we are trying to include an HR portal. Could someone help me with how to implement that and what we should include in it? We are thinking of incorporating leave management, payslips, performance checklists, documents of all employees, and more. Can someone also recommend additional features we can add to the portal?

Hi Pon, thank you. By "personal details," I mean the personal information of the employees. Do you have an example portal where I can get a better idea of that? That would be more helpful for me.

You can add a welcome note for new employees with their professional photo, mentioning their designation, department, and team details. Include a telephone directory of employees with extensions and official email IDs. Provide a general organizational structure overview, an Induction PPT, and the HR Policy Procedure Manual. Also, include photographs from the Annual Day, Open Day, or other festivities.

Writer's Column

For the Writer's Column, which includes sharing knowledge, soft skill, and motivation PPTs, the content should be regulated and monitored by the HR department. After screening the PPTs, HR must approve them for upload on the intranet. Display photos of top performers with their achievements, both personal and professional, in the Rewards and Recognition section.

Announcements and Greetings

Ensure to include new announcements like policy changes, upper/top management changes, and notifications about key personnel changes. Additionally, share wishes and greetings for birthdays, anniversaries, marriages, festivals, etc.

Grievances Column

Lastly, create a Grievances Column where any complaints can be addressed by HR department personnel for appropriate resolution.

Are you inquiring about a website or intranet? What I understand from your query is that you are asking for intranet contents. This intranet is visible on LANs of a company but not visible to outsiders. If your company has an IT department and they have web designers, then you can get some ideas. Use your imagination and creativity to design an intranet portal. Consult a web artist/designer. You can contact Mr. Sherwin Xavier from Pune; he is good at this stuff.
