What Will Happen if Two Employees Have the Same PF Account Number?

In the scenario where two employees share the same PF account number, it can lead to confusion and discrepancies in their contributions and benefits. This situation can cause issues during the disbursement of funds, tracking of individual contributions, and overall management of employee provident fund accounts.

To rectify this issue, it is crucial to immediately address the duplication in PF account numbers. The HR department should work closely with the provident fund authorities to assign unique account numbers to each employee accurately. Resolving this duplication promptly will ensure that each employee's contributions are correctly recorded and that there are no disruptions in the management of their provident fund accounts.

Before answering anything, I would like to ask you a question. If two employees are new employees or old ones, were they allotted the a/c no. at the same time or was one already an employee? Please clarify.

Allotting the same PF a/c Number to two persons can happen by mistake. Therefore, you are required to write a letter on your company's letterhead, with its stamp and the signature of the authorized person. In the letter, you will be requesting the local authorities to issue a separate a/c no. to the employee who joined later. Please include all the necessary details of the employer, such as PF registration no., and all required details of both employees with the allotted a/c numbers.

The authorities will issue a new number to one of those employees within a maximum of 15-20 days.

I hope this information is helpful.

Thanks and regards,
