Dear forum members,

I would like to understand the differences between human resource management and personnel management, or at least receive some hints. It would be very kind of you if you could help me.

Thank you.

Dear Sangapu,

I am also interested to know more about your sub, but I think that Personnel is a part of Human Resources.

Dear,

PM: was more towards the employee welfare.

HRM: aligning the individual goals to the organizational goals, in such a way that when the individual strives to achieve his personal goals, organizational goals are achieved in the longer run.

E.g., A faculty member of an academic institute enrolls for a Ph.D., as an individual she earns her doctorate, and the organization gains a professor.

I am also forwarding you a detailed note on PM vs. HRM (someone had presented it here a few days ago).

Regards,

Deepali Raheja.

HR consists of HRM and HRD.

First, manage your resources and then develop.

HRM & D is an evolutionary stage of Personnel Management. The term HRM & D came into use in the early 1990s. Before that, it was called Personnel Management.

Dear Sangapu,

PM is oriented towards old traditional roles like maintaining personal files, issuing promotion orders, etc., while HRM is more oriented towards the developmental aspects of employees.

The difference between HRM and personnel management is that HRM encompasses those activities designed to provide for and coordinate the human resources of an organization, whereas personnel management is the function performed in an organization that facilitates the most effective use of people to achieve organizational and individual goals.
