I am Mohamed Ali. I need to get my degree certificate attested for a foreign opportunity. Can I send the original certificate to my parents in Tamil Nadu and have it done there? Is it necessary for me to go there personally to get this done? I am confused. Please advise.

"Attested" means that photocopies need to be verified by a gazetted officer. Take your original along with a photocopy to a gazetted officer and get it signed and sealed by them. A doctor at a government hospital, a police inspector, or any other gazetted officer can help you.

You have to get your certificates attested at the HRD Ministry in Delhi if you are planning for a job abroad. Once it is attested in India, it has to be attested by the respective country's Ministry of External Affairs to secure a professional visa; otherwise, you will get a technician or low category visa. You can also get it done abroad (once you reach the desired destination) through an agent, but it is quite expensive and time-consuming.
