Dear Seniors, I joined this company in August, and I'm the only HR here. I want to do something special on the occasion of Diwali for my employees. I am looking for some good ideas to celebrate Diwali here.
Dear Sonal, you don't say that Diwali is the only occasion; it is the best opportunity to connect with employees. There are many options such as celebrations, watching, and sweets. You can find what is suitable for your company.
You can organize dance, singing, rangoli competitions, musical chairs, and traditional dress events. These may seem like small things, but they can make a significant difference.
Hi Sonal, even in my college, I'm celebrating Diwali celebrations. You can organize some contests such as debates or speeches, or have an ethnic wear style dress day. This can make a difference for one day from the usual boring working day.
You can have some competitions such as table decoration, rangoli, and best-dressed male and female (traditional dresses) and distribute prizes for 1st and 2nd place. If it's a small organization, you can also order lunch and distribute sweets or gifts to everyone.
First, decide on the budget, get it approved, and then consider: How many employees are there? What is the company setup? Is there a place where all of you can have lunch together?
First, get your office decorated with flowers, balloons, rangoli, and lamps. Then you may organize activities like tombola and musical chairs. Finally, arrange for lunch, dinner, or refreshments based on the budget, and definitely give gifts or some sweets to employees.
You can request all the employees to come in their ethnic wear, and you can arrange for a decent ramp walk in your department itself. A small stretch to walk at least 15 steps. The best-dressed with the best attitude on the ramp walk would win a prize.
Dear Sonal, as many have suggested, some kind of cultural program with the flavor of competition and exciting prizes will surely get everyone involved. A special lunch would definitely make the occasion enjoyable.
I am currently heading the HR Department of my company and want to give gifts to my laborers. Kindly guide me on what options are available to make our laborers delighted.
Hi Sonal, on the occasion of Pooja, can the company distribute sweet packets along with some branded crackers? Additionally, before the holiday, can the company arrange a lunch/dinner plan on the office campus? Furthermore, could the company organize a bonus for all staff members as a way to make employees happy and provide a family-like environment?
I completely second Yoganand here. Just to add to what he has mentioned, we may opt for a donation box or charity without keeping any limit on the donation amount. Towards the end, collect all the amount and hand it over to the Charitable Trust/NGO/Orphanage, etc. With due respect to all, I also second their thoughts on celebrating Diwali in different ways. That would give you external joy, but this activity will give you internal peace. Good luck, Sonali.
Hi Yoganand, A very good suggestion. A very direct and firm way to tell your employees that you care. Though what I would suggest is to do anything but work. Let the colleagues be together without the work.
Organize a cultural programme featuring well-known artists. There will be a fancy dress competition for employees and their family members, group dances, etc., followed by a 'Lunch/Dinner' with family members. Additionally, arrange for gifts for all the participants.
Dear Sonal, It is a good chance for you to personally connect with your organization's employees. You can decide on the celebration according to your company's budget.
I think if there is a budget problem in the company, we can collect a very small amount from the employees to conduct games for them and distribute prizes among them. This way, they will feel refreshed.
In my opinion, it is good to celebrate Diwali with your employees by distributing sweets and gifts for their families. However, before doing so, it is important to provide them with a little knowledge about Diwali celebrations and the safety of themselves and their families during fireworks.
I appreciate your efforts regarding the Diwali celebration. I suggest two things: organize a get-together in the company and plan a fireworks program for all your employees. Additionally, make dinner arrangements for everyone.
In case you're planning to order lunch for employees on the Diwali occasion, my suggestion is that you can organize a "POTLUCK," where each employee can bring something prepared from home, whether it's homemade lunch or sweets from outside. It doesn't matter if the quantity is less because when more employees participate, it automatically becomes sufficient for all. It's truly fun!
