Struggling to Start My HR Career: How Can I Move Beyond Low-Paying Recruiter Roles?

ajith_mba
Dear Seniors, I am Ajith Kumar, who completed an MBA in 2011 and is a fresher. I have registered with Naukri, Monster, TimesJobs, and approached some companies directly regarding HR jobs, but to no avail. I am only receiving opportunities for the job profile of an HR recruiter (i.e., recruiting candidates through phone calls), and the issue with this job profile is the salary package, which is offering me a maximum of 8k-9k. This is my current situation, and I would appreciate your suggestions on what steps I should take next to initiate my career. Thank you, and I will be eagerly awaiting your valuable reply.

Regards,
Ajith Kumar

You should first understand that the current market demand for HR is very competitive because any person, whether Tom, Dick, or Harry, is nowadays pursuing HR. Therefore, it is talent and exceptional skills that matter in the end. Since you are a fresher, hunt for a job that provides you with good experience, exposure, and knowledge, allowing you to mold yourself into a perfect HR professional rather than focusing solely on salary. Initially, you may be paid as you mentioned; however, after your probation period, based on your performance, you will likely receive a salary hike. Furthermore, after gaining experience, you can demand the best compensation.

So, patience is key. Be patient and choose the best industry to gain experience initially.

I can suggest you take up the opportunity that you have. Simultaneously, you can search for your dream job while continuing with the current one; something is better than nothing. You can also learn from that "something" because recruiting is also a part of an HR job.

All the best.

Thank you for your valuable reply. I will surely try for the best industry. Indeed, I need your help to know about walk-ins or recruitment drives in the best industries apart from my search too.

Nidhi.
