As Srikumar says, conceptually, it's easier to understand, but I'm not very sure of its practicality. This is somewhat similar to something I was reading in the morning about how to manage one's anger. The advocacy was that, at the moment the event takes place, one is expected to inform oneself that he/she doesn't want that negative experience and walk away, at least mentally, from the situation or experience.

One does encounter bosses who are, at their core, insecure and feel threatened by their juniors or peers. It's people of this type (I am aware that I am generalizing here) who come across as egomaniacal, manipulative, and control freaks. Very often, it's people with this type of personality or behavior who happen to be in a position of power and can be very abusive in terms of their relationship with their subordinates. They are often seen as partisan in their behavior.

Adopting the "FED EX" mindset in dealing with personalities such as these is difficult. Moreover, taking the perspective that whatever one is getting by way of abuse from a manipulative boss is something that is coming from the universe advocates a fatalistic perspective.
