Feeling Stuck in My Career: How Can I Transition from BPO to Finance in Kolkata?

joy2779
Hi All, I will explain my scenario. Since age 21, I have been working and now I am 32. This gave me very little opportunity for higher studies. Initially, due to financial difficulties, I could not pursue them, and later due to my negligence. I worked with iGate Patni for more than 4 years in Bangalore and Noida in the mortgage banking and insurance admin BPO processes. However, I experienced a separation and am now in Kolkata with my parents. Kolkata is not a hub for BPOs like HSBC, Wipro, and TCS, and they offer lower salaries. Currently, my experience in BPO is not yielding the best salary, my age is not in my favor, and BPO opportunities are limited here.

I joined NIIT to learn Tally 9.0, advanced Excel, and enhance my communication skills as I am targeting finance opportunities in West Bengal. I have attended interviews for a few of these opportunities, but they do not consider my over 6 years of BPO experience.

Guidance Needed

Seniors and HR friends, could you kindly offer me some guidance? Is shifting the only option?

Thank you.
Mahr
Please bullet your experience and the relative industry specifics. This would help us in providing better feedback. However, if you are looking to work in the financial sector, they may not consider previous experience outside of finance. You may need to start as a fresher or at a junior level.

Combining Threads for Better Clarity

Hello joy2779, you also started another thread regarding a Finance-related Forum, to which Mahesh, (Cite Contribution), and I had responded. It might have been more appropriate if you had combined it with this thread.

Evaluating Experience for Finance Positions

Regarding the options available to you, in addition to what Mahesh mentioned, please remember that regardless of the industry you are in (BPO, IT, Plain Accounts, etc.), any company you interview with will always evaluate your experience from their perspective and assess how relevant it is to them. When aiming for finance-related positions, note that only your finance-related experience will be considered relevant for that particular company. As Mahesh pointed out, you may need to start fresh in that field.

I understand this decision could be challenging as it depends on your priorities and choices. Also, keep in mind that there is no right or wrong choice here.

All the best.

Regards,
TS

Thank you for all the inputs.

- I want to join the finance department of a company in Kolkata, no matter what the salary is, as I want to learn the different phases of finance.
- I am willing to work as a trainee.
- Will employers let me join their company as a junior when I am 32?
- I am doing Tally 9.0, popular in West Bengal, and I can afford this. I am dead sure to complete this course.
- Can you guys help me in guiding through good consultancies?

Thank you,
Joydeep
