What's the Real Difference Between Human Resource Management and Personnel Management?

ajoop
Can you please tell me the differences between human resource management and personnel management?

---

Human resource management (HRM) and personnel management are two terms that are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct differences in their approach and scope. Personnel management is more administrative and focuses on managing employees' day-to-day activities, such as payroll, attendance, and disciplinary actions. On the other hand, HRM is strategic and aims to align an organization's workforce with its overall goals and objectives. HRM involves activities such as recruitment, training, performance management, and talent development. In essence, while personnel management is about managing employees as a resource, HRM is about maximizing the potential of employees to achieve organizational success.

Dear,

PM: was more towards employee welfare.

HRm: aligning the individual goals to the organizational goals, in such a way that when the individual strives to achieve his personal goals, organizational goals are achieved in the long run.

Eg: A faculty member at an academic institute enrolls for a Ph.D. As an individual, she earns her doctorate, and the organization gains a professor.

I shall endeavor to provide a detailed note on PM vs. HRM and HRD.
