Starting My Own HR Consultancy: How Do I Break Into the IT Field and Build Connections?

preeti79saini
Hi there,

I have 2 years of recruitment experience, and I want to start my own consultancy. Can you please suggest how I can start in the IT field? How do I develop business relationships with companies and build a database of candidates?

Namaskar Preetiji,

From the heading of your thread, it appears that you are distributing "jnan," but, on the contrary, you are seeking it.

Dear Preeti,

To start with, you need to have access to job portals to develop your database of candidates. In consultancy, there is stiff competition, and you need to deliver CVs at very short notice. Initially, you can have access to just one job portal. It also helps in headhunting.

To develop business, you can directly approach companies. Being a new consultancy, you'll have to be flexible about the rates and fast about CV deliveries, with constant follow-up with clients (Maintaining relationships is key).

You need to understand the client's requirements perfectly so that you can deliver quality CVs that match the clients' needs.

Shweta

Dear Priti,

You have to focus on proper database management of CVs. Since you have over 2 years of experience, you can utilize the approach you showed at that time in order to expand the alumni directories.

It's a good move, but trust me, it's a hell of a lot more difficult than you think. Heavy investment is required as you will face stiff competition. It's better if you can connect with some HR professionals and work as a freelancer from home. In that way, you will learn all the tips and tricks of the trade and also earn some money.

Everyone talks about databases, but they mainly rely on portals. Consider investing in a portal and start working.

Hi Priti,

Apart from building up a database, also work on creating a fresh and concise website for your consultancy. You can try your hand at doing it initially on Google; the options for the same are available. It's very simple, and there is no cost involved. Then, you have to target which industry you want to cater to; something specific. If you try to cater to 10 different things, it might get confusing as it's just the beginning. It's also better to have a few good but genuine and trustworthy clients with whom you can have long-lasting relationships, as this business thrives on relationships. Consider reaching out to the ones you have worked with in the earlier years of your career. Get some business cards printed for yourself, and you can negotiate and invest in a job portal, maybe for the initial 3 or 6 months so that you can download and create your database. The rest will follow.

Anyways, All The Best.

Hi All,

I'm very passionate about opening a placement and consultancy in Chennai. So I need help from all the great achievers to contribute their ideas and tips on how to go about getting clients, tie-ups, agreements, candidates, and what legalities need to be completed. How to form the placement consultancy, whom to hire, their salary, what all I should know, and where I can get more information. If someone has a related document format, please send it to my email riyazcomm@yahoo.com.

I read all the above posts, thanks for sharing so much, guys! Even I am one of them who wishes to start a recruitment consultancy firm. I would be grateful if anyone could share detailed info on this. I am primarily concerned about the legalities involved, such as, do I need to register? What are the other formalities involved? Can anyone provide some sort of formats on how the company profile should be prepared? And drafts of contracts with the companies, etc.

With regards,
Rajas.

I am located in Mumbai and I want to start an HR consultancy. I have questions regarding:

1) How can I get a tie-up with the HR of a company? For example, what documents are required?
2) Can you name some of the HR franchises in Mumbai?
3) What are the legal documentations required for consultancy if I am working from home?

Hi all,

I am new here. I am a Multimedia Professional looking to start my own venture. I want to know about IT & Non-IT recruitment and BPO services with HR solutions. Where can I find the details? Is this the right place to post my comment? If not, sorry, please relocate it to the related thread.

You need to prepare a business plan that includes your vision, mission, and marketing strategies. Once this is done, it becomes a guide for you to progress further.

First of all, congrats and best wishes...

Dear,

We have just started an HR Consultancy after facing a lot of struggles.

Please find my suggestions for the following issues:

1. The legal formalities to register the company.

First of all, you can consult with a chartered accountant and ask about all the requirements. Before that, you need to decide whether you want a Pvt Ltd Company, Partnership, or a sole proprietorship. If it's a private limited company in the initial stage, you must comply with all the statutory requirements.

2. How to create the company's profile.

Regarding the Company profile, you can include your Introduction, the scope of HR consultancy services, how your company can serve, your mission, vision, values (if any), information about your team, what sets you apart from other consultancies, your search and recruitment processes, your charges, contact address, etc.

3. Developing Client relationships.

It is crucial in this scenario because it's easy to acquire a client but challenging to retain them. Firstly, respond promptly to their requirements. Send valuable inputs like motivational slides, HR newsletters, and other information via email on a daily/weekly basis. Organize quarterly meetings with HR professionals (not necessary in the initial stages unless you are starting on a large scale). If you have a website, encourage them to register there, etc.

4. Database of candidates.

1. Ads
2. Website
3. Portals (e.g., Naukri, Monster) and other sites
4. Mass emailing
5. Telemarketing
6. References
7. Social Communities like Orkut, Facebook, etc.
8. College placement cells, etc.

Above all, it depends on how you work on it. Best of luck with your new startup.

And please answer the following questions:
1. What type of firm are you looking for? Like Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, or Ltd Company?
2. Resources you have.
3. IT, Non-IT, or Both?

Feel free to contact me for any issues. I will help you to the best of my knowledge.

Please email me at [email address].

Visit our site www.gallophr.com and provide your feedback. Thank you.

Hi Preeti,

I also intend to start a consultancy or be a part of one. I have around 3 years of experience in India's top IT company and am willing to set up my own platform in the HR consultancy era. It would be really great if you could guide me on what the approach should be and what the investment involved for portals and tie-ups would be.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to approach the company for a tie-up? Also, could you update me on the documents that need to be carried while contacting them? If any format is available, I would appreciate it if you could forward the same to my email id (sk.ziner@gmail.com).

Thank you.

Hi,

Can anyone explain to me the difference between a freelance recruiter and a consultancy? Does a company enter into a tie-up with a freelance recruiter?
rekha.gangadharan
Hi, I am Rekha. I have experience in generalist roles. I plan to start my own consultancy focusing on backend processes along with recruitment. I would like to inquire about the service charges for handling only backend processes.

Preeti,

Theoretically and imaginatively, everything happens, but practically - your idea of starting your consultancy with two years of experience needs some expert support. Have a crystal clear idea of what exactly investment, ROI, and client contacts entail. Consider B2B/M2M models, etc. If you need any assistance, feel free to contact me at destination4success@yahoo.co.in.

Cheers,
Karthik

Hi, Can anybody please let me know the headhunting process? I'm working as a Business Development Manager in a consulting company. Some companies are looking for profiles outside of job portals. Please assist me with this.

Hi dear Priti,

First, you have to collect information about consultancy. If you don't mind, I suggest that you join a diploma consultancy course that is offered in Udaipur. It is a one-year diploma course with classes held once a week on Sundays.

Please consider this opportunity for your professional development.

Thank you.
