How Do I Handle a Notice Period Buyout When My New Job Wants Me Sooner?

javherisg
Hi all, as per my current company policy, a resigned employee has to serve a 90-day notice period. I have resigned, and one month of the notice period is completed. Now, the next employer wants me to join before the joining date (the actual joining date was after 100 days), and they are ready to pay the Notice Buyout amount. Now, I'm not sure if my current employer will agree to release me before 90 days because I already accepted the 90-day notice period. Please suggest the next step.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sant

Hello Sant, in which industry are you in—IT? Also, you haven't mentioned how early the new company wants you to join (from earlier 3 months).

Before focusing on the 'Rules part' for early relieving, focus on how much ACTUAL time you need for the Knowledge Transfer to another person and to complete whatever you are doing right now. Try to figure out ways to complete it earlier and a rough Plan-of-Action. Once you have this, discuss it with your Boss/Lead. If you are able to convince him/her that your presence may not be needed beyond a point, he/she would be comfortable recommending to HR for early relieving.

All the Best.
