Gratuity Deduction Dilemma: Will I Get My Money Back If I Leave After Three Years?

Raj9999
Hi, I have a query regarding gratuity. My CTC includes a gratuity component, and an amount is deducted annually for it. If I leave this company after three years, will I be eligible to receive the deducted gratuity amount, albeit as taxable? Kindly advise.

No, you will not be entitled to receive the deducted amount as "Gratuity" if you leave your current employer before 5 years. Gratuity contributions have to be made by employers, though it is seen that many employers deduct the same from employees.

It is better that you talk to your employer and ask them directly what will happen if you leave before 5 years and how they will reimburse the deducted amount.
