Tea Break To Workers

deepa.mishra
Dear All,
My employer feels giving tea to workers is time waster. How can I convince my employer about this. We are a food processing industry, hence if anyone know about the practice in some food industry please let me know.

Tea break and lunch breaks are provided not only by workers welfare point of view but also in view of boosting morale and productivity.
It is mandatory as per different acts and rules that half an hour rest for continious three or more hours of work.

Dear Deepa,
I hope you have canteen in your factory.
One Lunch break and one tea break given to workers and it is mandatory under factory rules. Suppose, your company is not agreeing for tea break, then suggest to serve the tea on each workmen table.
The workers should not bind to machines for whole 8 hours. If small amount of free interval time given to them, they will feel relax, their moral get boosted and it will good impact on their productivity. Try to convince management. If management observed, workmen are wasted time in canteen or roaming around in factory, then put up notice on board and brought their notice not waste their valuable time. Also, take round in canteen and observed their unnecessary activities & control.

Deepa,
you are right.
one of my clients felt the same. work shift starts at 930, hwoever by the time workers punch cards, boiler is fired and people start working, its 10pm.. the first tea break was scheduled at 11.15..
this is where the problem cropped up. after 1 hour of work, nobody wants workers to go a spree for a 30mins (though the actual break is 15mins)..
a solution exists via RFID card wherein break times/ AHT etc are easily calculated in BPOs etc.
but the question is how many small companies can afford to recreate the BPO technique.
