Starting an E-Library at Work: What Books and Resources Do You Recommend?

s aparna
Hi all,

This is Aparna. I have recently joined this community, and I must say it's one of the best HR communities. I am working as an HR generalist in a German MNC and am planning to start with an E-library concept. Can you guys share your inputs regarding this?

Please also provide me with some interesting/inspirational books, journals, or magazines if you have any suggestions.

Very few corporates or even educational institutes in the Asia Pacific region have e-libraries. It would make more sense for you to glean help from the US Congress Library, DELNET (India), or any parametric search-based data mining sites on the internet.

This has to be created and customized to the needs of your company. I think it would be based on:

1. Company philosophy, work ethics, business vision, and mission
2. Complementary skills matrix of employees working with you
3. Industry/global knowledge requirements
4. Markets (global, national, local, etc)
5. Employee progression needs/interests
6. Management skills/development needs

The vehicle could be a centralized server or an intranet-based one. It could also be put on a global encrypted FTP site. It would need need-based and customized content creation. Some uncustomized content, CD, internet, etc., could be collected from various institutions but need to be customized/edited to suit the company's needs. Quite interesting and challenging, I must say...
