Dear aspirants for a PhD in Business Management,
Your desire to pursue a PhD, even though you come from different backgrounds (such as Mechanical Engineering, HRM, etc.), is commendable. I want to provide you with a realistic picture.
Recognized guides in Business Management in Indian Universities and B-Schools are not very numerous. Those who are recognized cannot take on more than 5-6 full-time research scholars and perhaps 5 part-time scholars. These guides are overwhelmed by numerous prospective candidates from various fields such as MCom, MBA, Engineering, and Public Administration. Initially, you should contact a prospective guide and ascertain their availability.
Some universities have a pool of National Guides, such as Bharatiyar University, Coimbatore. You can check the list to see if someone is available to assist you. Until you secure a guide, please begin efforts by (i) identifying a research area; (ii) conducting some preliminary literature review; (iii) learning some tools for quantitative and qualitative research; (iv) gathering published papers in your research area; (v) attending conferences or seminars and attempting to connect with professors or potential guides.
Wishing you a fruitful research journey ahead.
