Hi, this is Roma here! I need information regarding a competency mapping matrix to train employees according to their specific needs. I am currently working on this project. Can anybody guide me? I need methods of competency mapping, specifically easy methods that can be easily implemented in an organization. Hope to see some solutions soon!

This could be a HUGE task depending on the number of employees and the unique number of job roles in your organization. I can offer you a training program to help with this project but prefer to offer advice first to help you progress the project.

Identify Job Titles and Descriptions

First, identify each individual job title. If you are using job descriptions, check when they were written and if they are current. Then identify for each job title what skills, knowledge, behaviors, and standards you would see if someone was performing that job perfectly, and if someone was performing that job poorly. Consider what is required of the job title both now and in the future as the framework should be linked to your organization's future strategy and development.

Analyze Skills and Standards

Now you should have a lot of data about the skills required for each job. Identify where many jobs require the same skills to the same standard - for example, senior managers may be involved in negotiations and you expect the same high standards from them all. Write the competency description to that standard and apply it to all of the relevant jobs, and so on...

As you write the framework, check with job holders and ask them if someone who demonstrated the most perfect performance in this skill would it look like what I have written in my description of that competency. Hope this helps.
