Is Investing 3.4 Lacs in SAP HR Certification Worth It for a 26-Year-Old with 4 Years of HR Experience?

samrobinsonhr
Dear all, Kindly guide me as I am in a dilemma. I have 2 years of HR experience in the manufacturing industry and 2 years of HR and admin experience in an NGO that runs colleges and schools, totaling 4 years of HR and admin experience. Now, I am planning to do SAP HR certification either from Siemens or NIIT Chennai. Could you please advise me on whether it is a good decision to invest 3.4 Lacs for SAP certification? I am 26 years old now. Do you think I can succeed in the SAP HR industry as a fresher in SAP?

Thanks and regards

Hi, can anyone help me? What is the difference between SAP HR and SAP HCM? I have been searching the web for a more detailed answer on the difference between SAP HR and SAP HCM. The best I could find on the web was this (Difference Between).

Advice for Freshers in SAP Certification

If SAP HR and SAP HCM are different concepts and have different certification programs, what would you advise a fresher in SAP who wants to pursue certification in HR or HCM?

Thanks and regards, Madhavi Shelake

Hi Seniors, I also have the same query as Robinson Sam: SAP HR or PeopleSoft HR? Which is better? Are they worth the investment financially and career-wise? Somewhere, I feel the HR field is stagnant and lacks growth opportunities compared to marketing, finance, IT, or other directly revenue-related fields. Every company sees the HR Department as overhead, an extra support system expense. In this case, how can HR professionals make themselves marketable? Please guide!

Dear Abhishek Sundram,

I am Abhishek Sundram, an SAP FICO Consultant. As per my suggestion, you should go for SAP HR. However, do not opt for training at any SAP authorized center as it is too costly. Instead, choose institutes that provide SAP HR training. I believe they charge around 30k-40k for this course. I suggest this because, as an SAP fresher, you may not secure a job in SAP immediately. Therefore, get training from any institute first. If you feel confident in your command of SAP HR after the training, then you can proceed with certification from Siemens or NIIT.

3.4 Lakhs is a significant amount of money, and you have around 2 years of experience in the HR industry. While there are numerous opportunities available, there are likely equally competent individuals with more experience in the market that you will need to compete with. My suggestion is that you may want to consider adjusting your investment plan by delaying it for 2 years. This delay could allow the automation transition that the industry is currently undergoing to mature further, and in the meantime, you could become more familiar with other HR tools.

I am not recommending procrastination or stalling your career growth, but rather making a wise and timely investment in upgrading your skills. Do not view an SAP certification as a cure-all for enhancing your career.

If you have decided to invest your hard-earned money in learning SAP HR, conduct thorough research and seek assurance from the institute regarding post-certification placement. Keep in mind that certification does not guarantee a job unless provided by the SAP ATC itself. You will be competing with a more elite crowd, and you should ensure that you are capable, comparable, and well-equipped to compete in terms of experience and knowledge in the HR domain.

Furthermore, once you have made your decision, it is advisable to opt for authentic certification from authorized Training Centers (SAP ATC) rather than low-cost institutes. Seek genuine learning, hands-on experience with the SAP Module, and authentic case studies, along with, I believe, 24-hour access. Good luck.

Believe me, SAP HR adds value to your resume. However, it would only be advisable to pursue HRMS after understanding the different nuances in the HR arena. If you don't understand HR functions conceptually and practically, there is no point in pursuing the course. The course content will be limited from whatever institute you will be pursuing. Unless you understand HR to the core, you will not be able to relate to some aspects and will not be able to be an efficient IT consultant. You will possibly have to learn the tricks of the trade first and then move onto a system where you can start implementing what you have conceptually imbibed.

Your exposure to the industry will surely add value. However, self-introspect whether you are ready to take on a consultant position that demands not only your HR skills but also your exceptional interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.

Good luck with all your future endeavors!!

Dear Seniors, I am currently pursuing an MBA in Human Resources from the International Management Institute, New Delhi. I am presently in my second year and do not have any prior work experience.

Timing for SAP HR Certification

According to you, what is the right time for a fresher like me to undergo an SAP HR certification? We have a course on HRIS and will be working hands-on with the SAP HCM module.

Please share your views.

Thank you,

Dear all, I also have the same query. I want to pursue SAP HR, but the course fee is approximately Rs. 3 lakh. I am confused about whether it will be beneficial for me or not. I have 3 years of experience in HR (5-star Hotel) and am keen to take this course. Please advise me on this matter, and if possible, provide information on the procedure to apply for the course.

Any SAP-HR professional whom I have met has said two things about the SAP HR course. First, it is way too expensive with very low ROI. Second, only after you have taken the SAP course do you realize that you shouldn't have gone for it at all. I think that tells you enough.

Dear All, After all the research I've done in the past few days, I have come to a conclusion regarding SAP HR. I have decided to pursue the SAP HR certification program at Genovate Bangalore. Most of the SAP HR personnel suggested Genovate because they provide better placement assistance even after the certification is obtained. I would like to thank CiteHR and its members for providing valuable inputs.
