Understanding Stipends: How Do They Compare to Actual Salaries?

sreeja41
Hi everyone, can anyone help me know what percentage of stipend is over the actual salary paid to anyone? Please tell me as soon as possible.

Regards,
Poonam

Your query is not clear. A stipend is not paid to employees who are already receiving a salary; stipends are typically for trainees.

Yes, it's for trainees only. On what basis is the stipend amount decided? For example, if the salary is 20k after the completion of the training and probation period, then what amount of stipend should I pay him now?

As far as I know, there is no norm for fixing the stipend based on the salary likely to be fixed upon completion of the training period. It is at the discretion of the company to fix the stipend considering the cost of living.

Ok, thanks a lot. But if I am paying a trainee 10K as a stipend, what should be the salary I should offer at their appointment or confirmation?

A classic case of "If you want the right answer, you have to ask the right question," I guess. Not trying to pull your leg, Poonam... hope you understand. Had you mentioned the complete inputs, both Pon and you could have avoided this flurry of postings and consequently saved time too, I guess? I suggest you post the ACTUAL situation you are facing now ALONG WITH the background info. That will help Pon and others to respond more accurately—the idea being that, at the end of the day, you ought to benefit from the responses of the members, rather than the issue being ping-ponged back and forth. Sorry for the direct response, if it has hurt you.

Regards,
TS
