Hi, I am a commerce graduate working in a construction company with 5 years and 6 months of experience in the HR and Admin department. From the beginning of my career, I worked as a Senior Assistant in the P & A department, handling statutory compliance, salary processing, labor issues, and employee grievances, among other responsibilities.

In 2010, I changed my job and joined another construction company in an administrative role. I am concerned about my career due to the change in my job profile. I am attempting to transition into the HR department but have not yet found an opportunity.

Dear Arika, you need not make any complex exercises to become a successful HR professional. It is very simple. You can learn while accomplishing your routine job within the working hours of your office.

Whatever job is assigned to you, while putting that to your boss, make it a habit to know the background of that specific job, how and what had already been done in similar jobs by your predecessor in the file, and think about how you could have done it better.

Discuss your viewpoints with your superior, have their views, and present the case expressing your suggestions in a convincing manner where a consensus is reached between you and your superior. However, be vigilant if you feel your superior is misleading you or asking you to base decisions on biased judgment. In situations where you differ entirely with your superior's views, simply submit the case without your suggestions and seek the decision of the competent authority on the matter.

After a decision is made on the concerned matter, reflect on the outcome and consider why it was either right or wrong. You need not worry about a wrong decision made by the decision-maker, but if you disagree with the opinion on that decision, try to discuss the pros and cons of the decision in a humble manner with your superiors. If your superior or boss agrees with your viewpoints, they may ask you to resubmit the case with your opinion for review. However, if they don't agree, do not insist, as you have already fulfilled your duty well.
