Feeling Stuck in IT Recruitment? Seeking Advice on Transitioning to HR Generalist or Payroll Roles

swathiudhay
Hello Everyone,

To give you a brief introduction about me: my name is Swathi Udhay, and I have been working as an IT recruiter for the past 4 years. I started my career as an IT recruiter for the domestic market, and currently, I am working for the US Market.

Educational Qualification: I have completed my Bachelor's in Business Management with a specialization in Marketing.

Guys, I am confused and would appreciate your suggestions. I have noticed that over the past 4 years, I have not experienced any growth in my profession, and now, I am considering transitioning into other fields of HR. Please find my queries listed below:

1. Should I pursue a career as an HR generalist or in HR Payroll?
2. How can I secure a job in this field?
3. Is it advisable to enroll in HR courses to enter this field? If yes, please recommend some reputable institutions that provide placement opportunities.
4. Should I start as a Trainee HR generalist/Payroll executive? (Salary is not a concern for me; I am focused on career growth.)
5. Are there any institutes/companies offering On-Job Training?
6. My preferred location is Bangalore.
7. Would learning additional languages like German/French enhance my prospects for better opportunities?

Regards,

Swathi Udhay.

I think you should look for more opportunities as an HR Generalist/Payroll Executive. First of all, you should find a job as an HR Generalist/Payroll Executive, and then with time, you will learn many things. You should read more and more articles related to payroll and HR.

You will definitely get more exposure in a generalist HR profile rather than getting into HR payroll. Payroll is one part of HR, whereas generalist HR comprises all HR activities from entry to exit. However, you must decide for yourself which role interests you more and then look for a job in that role. Try for some smaller organizations; they may consider your profile based on the fact that you have 4 years of experience in recruitment. Best of luck!

Thank you for the response. I would appreciate it if you could suggest a good training institute for HR Generalist. I want to learn the basics before starting the job. Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could list out the roles and responsibilities of an HR Generalist.
