Understanding VPF Contributions: Should I Calculate 5% on 9000 or the 6500 Ceiling?

pb_bisht
Please, seniors, suggest to me what the maximum wage ceiling limit for VPF is. I have a basic salary of 9000 per month, and I want to contribute 5% voluntarily towards PF, in addition to the mandatory 12%. Hence, should it be 5% of the 9000 or of 6500, on which we contribute 12% as per the maximum defined ceiling set by the government?

Dear seniors, please help me with this. I am unsure about the wages on which VPF should be deducted.

VPF % is calculated on the Basic that is shown in your salary breakup today. You can contribute 100% of your basic wage only.

Dear Pushkar, there is no upper limit on the contribution to VPF. The maximum contribution allowed towards VPF is 100% of your basic and dearness allowance (DA). This additional voluntary contribution enjoys all the benefits of PF, except that the company doesn't contribute an equal amount. Nevertheless, the interest rate is equal to the rate of interest for PF, and the withdrawal on retirement is tax-free.
