When you are working on a project, I am sure you must be familiar with the areas within Compensation and Benefits. Anyhow, you could consider the following:
- Job Descriptions
- Job Evaluation
- Grading System
- Salary Scale (single or multiple scales)
- Pay Policy (overall including pay increases based on inflation, merit, etc.)
- Bonuses and Incentives
- Employment Contracts
- Benefits and Perks
My suggestion is that you first collect data based on levels. For example, determine which employees fall under which category. Then, review the policies to understand which policies apply at each level and the associated facilities. This approach can also be applied to analyzing the salary structure. Please make sure to refer to all HR policies as well.
The subject of compensation is very challenging. You need to design it in such a way that management has a minimum indirect burden, and employees receive maximum take-home pay. The salary structure should also be tax-friendly, considering minimum wages, PF, and ESIC, along with all other statutory obligations.
The system should be more performance-based and competency-based rather than fixed.
