Navigating Job Offers: Should You Prioritize Title Over Opportunity? Seeking Advice!

Hi All, I have been working in a broking company for the past year, with a total experience of almost three years. Currently, I hold the position of Sr. HR Executive. I am now open to new opportunities. However, the calls I have been receiving from other companies, even from big companies, have been for roles at an Executive level. Due to the designation, I have been hesitant to accept these offers. I am unsure if rejecting these offers solely based on the job title is the right decision.

I truly value maintaining my current level or advancing further in my career rather than taking a step back in terms of role hierarchy, despite attractive pay packages and roles in new companies.

I would appreciate any guidance on how to navigate these situations effectively, ensuring a mutually beneficial outcome for both parties. Please advise on the best approach to negotiate offers in a manner that leads to a win-win scenario. Thank you for your assistance.

It all depends on how you want to look at the WHOLE package and what your priorities are. Just compare the designation of 'Executive' in a company of your size (I guess you are working in Angel Broking) and the same designation in... let's say... Bank of America. Do you think the JOB ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES (apart from the CTC) in both would be the same?

Another analogy: Which of the Chief Ministers would have more power, responsibilities, and money at disposal - a large state like UP or a smaller state like Chhattisgarh? Mind you, BOTH are called Chief Ministers. I think you know the answer. There's also another factor: the SCALE of operations, even if you would be doing the same 'basic' job role. In this company, you would be handling around 100 people, while in large companies, you would be handling much larger employee sizes.

From the HR perspective, what do you think will give you:
- more satisfaction?
- more responsibility?
- more authority?
- obviously, more money?

I guess you know the answer. That is NOT TO SAY that designation isn't important. But I feel, until you pick up the threads/tricks of the trade (HR field), please don't focus 'too much' on designation. I know of companies that offer crazy/high-sounding designations with the job role being standard/regular - though the employee doesn't realize it initially, it's HE/SHE who will lose out in the long run... since he/she gets stuck there when it's found in subsequent interviews that the designation and job role/responsibilities don't really match.

So, suggest FOCUSING MORE on the job role and responsibilities. Also, check if the next move will ADD to your overall portfolio/resume after 1/2/3 years down the line. If you are satisfied, then just make the move instead of dithering and maybe losing the opportunity.
