Exploring SAP HR Training and Professional Experience in HR

sirishaav
Hi Guys,

I have completed a course in SAP HR from an institute in Hyderabad. However, I feel that what was taught to me was just the tip of the iceberg. Can anyone suggest how I can progress further in this field? Are there any recommended books available in the market? How can I delve deeper into this subject?

It would be great if anybody could suggest the submodules in SAP such as time and payroll, along with the elements or syllabi that one needs to learn.

Thanks,
Sirisha

Hi,

How would you know that you have only learned the tip of the iceberg? Did you not insist on them teaching you the concepts of SAP? By the way, what is your academic background that prompted you to pursue SAP? How are you placed in Sweden right now?

Yes, which institute has not fully helped?

Have a good day.

Hi Srinivas,

I browse a lot of online forums, and through them, I got to know that whatever I have learned is little. It wouldn't be wise to name the institute; I think most of them are like that.

I am a Management graduate with HR and Systems as my specializations, so I thought SAP HR would be ideal for me. Right now, I am holidaying in Sweden with my sister.

Hi Sirisha,

It is heartening to note that you are enjoying your holiday in Sweden, which is a beautiful place. You could develop better insights on management and organizational theories when you interact in private with the green pastures, streamy waters, and above all, an altogether new culture.

One must, at every opportune time and place, try to learn new things and try to emulate any practices of that geographical sphere that are worth emulating.

Coming to the current issue, SAP-HR is a very exhaustive course that calls for some amount of professional background in all areas of HR. Though I have not done SAP-HR myself, I have gathered much-needed information on this from various sources and am strongly inclined to do this shortly.

Once you come back home, please email me further details of your areas of interest, core competencies, and your perception about SAP-HR and its future. You do have good forums in Hyderabad that provide very good insights on various areas of HR. You will find a few in the forums who have completed SAP-HR from premier institutions and can easily assess your present potential levels as an SAP professional.

Wish you good luck.

Hi Srinivas,

Appreciate your prompt response! I have more than 4 years of experience in HR, partly in recruitments and partly in core HR. I strongly disagree with you on having some amount of professional experience in HR. It does not really help you in going for certification/training. However, it adds weightage to your resume. I have been working on SAP HR for the last year.

Good luck if you aspire to be a SAP HR functional consultant. How about you? I guess you're into HR too? Let me know more about you...

Bye,
Sirisha

Hi Sirisha,

Please excuse me for not replying quickly due to other commitments. It's great to hear that you have been working on the SAP-HR module for the past year. You must have better insights in this area than me. However, SAP-HR modules are designed in a way that individuals without basic HR knowledge may find it challenging to adapt. Having experience alone does not guarantee success in SAP-HR if one cannot adjust to ERP systems. Someone with a good understanding of policy formulation, payroll integration with HR functions, etc., will definitely have an advantage over a fresh graduate. I am confident that you will agree with me on this point.

I am currently working for a Government of India (GOI) Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) as a Personal Secretary to the Head of the Department. I have previously worked in the HR department for over 8 years. I hold dual diplomas in Personnel Management & Industrial Relations and HR Development. My specialization is in Training & Development, and I actively participate in HR forums in Hyderabad. My interest in SAP-HR stems from a desire to become a part-time consultant leveraging my academic and professional HR background.

I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Have a great day.

Hi Srinivas,

It's really great to know that you have 8 long years of experience. In that case, you must be much senior to me with ample experience in HR. Maybe to some extent, I would agree with you, with some reservations, though, in terms of having prior experience in HR for getting into SAP HR.

Sirisha.
