Understanding CTC

CTC is the acronym for Total Cost to the Company. It is the sum total of all the perquisites and fringe benefits which an employee gets from the company, including the salary.

The CTC is the sum of the gross salary, bonus, all types of contributions by the employer for the employee (PF/ESIC/Gratuity, etc.), other perquisites, and benefits. The CTC contains benefits such as fixed medical reimbursement, insurance benefits, travel allowance, telephone expenses, etc.

Understanding Gross Salary

Gross Salary is the amount of pay that includes the basic pay and all the allowances you are entitled to. It includes bonuses (other than statutory bonus) and overtime. Gross Salary is calculated before the deduction of tax.

Understanding Gross Salary and CTC

Gross salary does not take into account your employer's contribution, such as ESI. However, in CTC, it is nothing but gross salary plus the employer's contribution.
