Subject: Labor Rules in India with Respect to Working Hours

Sir,

Yes, in India, different states have different labor laws. In Karnataka, the healthcare sector (covering private hospitals and diagnostic centers) follows specific regulations, but there are also distinct laws for both government and private institutions. Furthermore, labor laws vary from state to state in India.

The central government in India sets general labor hour specifications, but individual states may have their own variations. Minimum wages differ between the government and private sectors, with each having its own rates. Government departments determine pay scales based on their service rules, while the state government establishes the minimum wage rates for the private sector.

Could you please specify what information you require regarding the applicable laws here? Additionally, what industry are you considering setting up in India? I will do my best to provide you with the relevant information.

When I enquired with the labor officers in Bangalore, I learned that hospitals or any essential services, even if they work more than 8 hours per day, should not exceed 48 hours per week. Additionally, private hospitals are required to adhere to the Minimum Wages Act and rules enforced by the state.
