Choosing Between MSW and MLM for Distance Learning: Which Path Should I Take?

Senthilkumar.Raju
Dear Seniors, I have planned to pursue an additional Master's degree through distance education. I am a little confused about selecting the course, either MSW or MLM.

For MSW:

First Year
- Introduction to Social Work
- Social Work Practice with Individuals and Groups
- Social Policy and Social Welfare Administration
- Social Problems
- Social Work Research and Statistics

Second Year
- Community Organization Practice
- Community Development
- Human Resource Management
- Community Health and Medical Social Work
- Project Report and Viva-Voce

For MLM:

First Year
- Industrial Sociology and Labour Problems
- Labour Laws
- Training and Development
- Management Information System
- Research Methods and Statistics

Second Year
- Administrative Law
- Social Psychology
- Labour Economics
- Wages and Salary Administration
- Project Work and Viva Voce

Please provide your valuable input.

Dear Senthil, If you are already employed in HR, then consider pursuing MLM. If you are seeking employment in HR, then opt for MSW, as MSW holds greater market value than MLM. Additionally, consider pursuing an MBA in HR, a Diploma in Training and Development, a Diploma in HRM, a Diploma in Labour Laws, and an M.Sc in Psychology.

All the Best,

Thank you for your input. I have already completed my MBA in HR and am currently working in HR and Admin. I am considering pursuing an MSW. Could you please advise if the course content offered for the MSW program is of high quality?

Dear Senthil, As you have completed a PG in HR, there is no need to pursue another one. It would be better to consider obtaining specialized diplomas such as a Diploma in Training & Development, Labor Laws, Applied Psychology, or similar areas. This way, you will acquire multi-domain knowledge which can be more beneficial than pursuing another postgraduate degree in the same field.

All the Best,

According to me, MSW is better than MLW. The reason is that in MSW, you have a wider scope in terms of job opportunities and target areas. On the other hand, in MLW, you may only specialize in labor-related issues.

By pursuing MSW, you will gain a deep understanding of various aspects such as social, labor, economic, political, psychological, and behavioral issues of human beings. The practical fieldwork in MSW is extremely beneficial in gaining insights and understanding different situations.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, and for job purposes, it depends entirely on your competency and skills.
