Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory Confusion: Is Job Status a Motivator or a Hygiene Factor?

sajjal20
Hey everyone, I was going through some reading material online regarding Herzberg's Two-Factor Theory. In some places, job status has been labeled as a hygiene factor, whereas in others, it has been labeled as a motivator. Could someone please clarify which category job status falls under?

Thanks in advance!

Job Status as a Hygiene Factor

In this theory, there are six motivational factors and nine hygiene factors.

Job Status and Security

Job status can provide security in certain areas, such as with Tenured Professors in America. Once they attain this status, they are protected from being fired, unlike non-tenured lecturers and Assistant Professors.

Motivation and Job Title

Additionally, consider this question: Would you feel motivated to work solely due to a change in job title, without the accompanying perks such as a company car, spacious office, extra pay, or complimentary medical insurance?

Have a nice day.
