Hi,
Most of us are familiar with Bruce Tuckman's model of team development. This model is often mentioned as one of the theoretical frameworks used in most team-building programs. However, no efforts are usually made to determine the current stage of team development. Furthermore, no guidance is typically provided on how to guide the team through the stages.
Susan A. Wheelan, in her work on "Creating Effective Teams," shares practical advice on working with teams across different stages of team development. She also provides tools for assessing the team's performance and developmental stages. One of the tools she uses is the team performance checklist, which measures the current stage of the team. I found this to be a very effective tool when starting an engagement with a team to assess the current situation.
The book contains several useful tools that can be implemented with your teams. Do you use any tools for measuring team effectiveness? Please do share them.
Cheers,
Rakesh
