Feeling Stuck in HR: Should I Switch to Recruitment or Explore Other Options in Pune?

nsz
I have 1.6 years of experience as an HR generalist in the education industry and in a BPO, but these two companies were not reputed. Now, my current company, i.e., the BPO, is closed, so I am looking for a job. Is it good to enter into recruitment? Wouldn't it be a backward step considering I do not have much experience in recruitment, and I am not interested in this field either? What should I do? Can you help me in getting a job in Pune?

Dear nsz,

Entering recruitment or any other field for that matter can only be a 'back step' (using your words) if you know what the front steps are. And, if you don't know what the front steps are, does it really matter whether you enter recruitment or not?

Go back and read your own post. This is what you wrote:

'I don't have much experience in recruitment and I am not interested in this field;'

Even after writing this line, you are asking seniors whether you should enter recruitment? Don't do it, mate! You will be miserable!

To me, it appears as though your peer group is influencing you towards recruitment (much against your own wishes). So, my question to you is:

Are you going to do what your peers suggest, or will you do what you really want for yourself?

Answer this question with brutal honesty and your dilemma about entering recruitment or not will be solved in less than half a second.

Answer this question while lying to yourself about what you want in your life, and you will be in one dilemma after another - for your whole life - guaranteed!

So, in a nutshell, it doesn't matter whether the seniors here think you should go into recruitment or not. The matter of fact is WHAT DO YOU WANT?

Hello nsz,

When you want to choose a career path, pursue something that will make you satisfied and happy—whether it be in Recruitment or just selling peanuts (pun intended). If you don't love what you do, as Gaurav Sareen mentioned, that's a sure-shot recipe for disaster and can make your life and the lives of those around you miserable.

I recall a case (not related to HR but to the general concept) of a person who wasn't interested in becoming a medical doctor but had to join MBBS due to peer/family pressure. It took him 9 years to complete the 5-year course, and even after starting a job (thanks to some connections), his reputation as a doctor was so poor that even the nurses and compounders were able to provide better prescriptions than him.

Perhaps you are better suited for something else. Take some time to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses (essentially a SWOT analysis) very honestly. I am confident that you will gain clarity on the direction your career should take.

Thanks for the valuable suggestions, but at this moment, I am only getting jobs in recruitment. I have to start somewhere, and I think I made a mistake by joining those two companies. Can anyone help me in getting a job in an HR generalist profile or any other aspect of HR apart from recruitment?

Hello nsz,

I repeat what I mentioned earlier:
"do some thinking about your strengths & weaknesses [basically a SWOT analysis] very honestly—I am sure you will get clarity as to which direction your career should be heading towards."

I get a feeling that you are confused & mixing up things. Even though you mentioned that you DON'T want to get into recruitment, you have not mentioned WHY. Maybe you took that decision for the WRONG reasons? Just think about it & post your thoughts. Maybe then the members can give more focused & appropriate guidance/advice.

Seniors, I have got a chance to join a company named SK Infotech in Pune as an HR. Does anyone have an idea about this company?

Hello nsz,

Suggest first make the best use of the internet before asking for direct experience/feedback from the forum. Here's a link that I got—since the email ID is mentioned, you can check it out with someone who worked there firsthand.

I am sure you can get other relevant links too that can help you arrive at a well-informed decision. All the best.
