Designing Effective Training Modules for Foundry Workers: Expert Advice and Insights

pooja_1september
Hi,

How to design a training module? Please let me know step by step.

Hi,

We are a foundry-based company. So, my motive is to train workers in their basic areas. For example, core shop making, melt shop, and moulding line. Essentially, it will be on-the-job training, but I also want to incorporate safety instructions and behavioral skills. Therefore, I am planning to present this training through flow charts and video clips as well.

Please suggest any additional ideas or improvements.

I would suggest hiring a professional trainer to properly conduct the training, as it seems you have little knowledge about training. In high-risk environments such as a foundry, it is crucial that the training is facilitated by individuals who are experienced and knowledgeable in the subject matter.

I could not agree more with John! A training company like mine will, in your particular situation, at best, guide you on the technical aspects of the 'how to' for designing a training module, delivering it, etc. However, the contents of any such module will have to, and should, come from an expert in the foundry industry.

Knowing the abysmally low safety record and levels of occupational health & safety in India, especially in mid-sized enterprises, I won't be surprised if John's suggestion is brushed aside. But, I am hoping that your company is different and really does care about its people.

And, Pooja, if any training company tells you that they'll help you with outsourced assistance, tie-ups, etc., almost 99.5 out of 100 will be lying to you. Your requirement is very specific, and your industry is very high-risk with abundant potential for real risk to human life at every step. Please make sure that whoever you choose to assist you is not just qualified but very experienced in your industry.

I can only help you in suggesting how to design a training model, etc. But, your real problem cannot be solved here. I seriously think you must approach your industry association or apex body. Surely they will have someone to help you!

Take care!

Hi Pooja,

It seems that you are new to this area. I suggest doing some reading to understand the training cycle as it would be challenging to explain the entire process here.

The training cycle begins with training needs analysis, where you have to determine the important areas to cover in training, identify which employees require specific training, and so on.

Once this analysis is complete, you must address each identified training need and develop a training program. This involves identifying the topics to cover, selecting faculty, determining the target audience, and more.

Subsequently, you should execute the program by sending out program invites, confirming faculty, creating a schedule, and managing other logistics.

After the program is conducted, gather feedback and conduct a training effectiveness study.

You can seek assistance from seniors and department heads in designing programs, particularly functional ones. Initially, consider using external faculty for behavioral programs as they can help tailor the modules to your needs. As you gain experience, you can start identifying suitable internal faculty for functional and behavioral programs.

I hope this information is helpful. Starting from scratch can be challenging but also a valuable learning experience.

Dear Pooja,

First of all, decide how many senior members are in your organization. Then discuss with your seniors regarding training. Find out how many employees need training and in which field they need training. Next, allocate each employee to a senior person based on their specialization. This is mainly a Mentors & Mentees module. Allocate the number of mentees to mentors. Finally, decide on the time period/training schedule day-wise according to the available time, and communicate this information to the mentors and mentees.

For any queries, please reply to me by my name.

Thanks and regards,

Dear John,

You are right. We cannot take a risk with the training, but first of all, we have to know if training is important or not, what type of training it is, and whether we can provide training internally to the employees. Alternatively, do we need to recruit other professional trainers according to the company's needs?

Please tell me how everything is going on. Is everything okay in the company?
